Local band, The Kowloons, have now released their first EP after being signed to Liverpool record label, Modern Sky.

We spoke to Ant from the band about what the new deal means to them and what’s next from the group.
Ant: “We’ve got someone backing us now when previously we’ve been on our own. It means we’ve got more resources and more to play with. We put a lot of effort into presentation and marketing, so this deal allows us to focus on the music.
“We started in lockdown with a Mac and Logic (music software) to start putting our ideas down. Our first studio recording was in 2023.”
Ed: A few years later, Chris “The Hawk” Hawkins from BBC 6 Music said you are “The new sound of Britpop for the 2020’s” – is Britpop still your major influence?
Ant: “We have so many influences – our early recordings were like a scrapbook, with every song from somewhere different. We’re interested in every genre from across the globe.”
