Sefton’s libraries are officially kicking off this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, and there is a major musical twist for 2026.
Parents and children can now head into any local council library across the borough to sign up for the free annual event.
This year, national charity The Reading Agency has teamed up with Universal Music Group UK for a theme called ‘Read to the Beat’. The partnership means children will find plenty of music-themed activities, books, and rewards waiting for them at their local branches over the school holidays.
How to take part in Sefton
Getting involved is straightforward. Families can visit their nearest library to register in person, collect their physical reading packs, and start tracking their progress to earn rewards.
For those who prefer a digital option, or want to keep track while away on holiday, the challenge is also running online.
By visiting summerreadingchallenge.org.uk, children can:
- Set their own personal summer reading goals.
- Log the books, ebooks, or audiobooks they finish.
- Unlock exclusive digital badges and rewards as they progress.
Staff at all local branches are ready to help children pick out books, whether they love stories, comics, or non-fiction. Head down to your local Sefton library this week to sign up for free.
