This week in Sefton

There’s still a lot going on this spring in Sefton. From great art to Manilow magic, here are some of this week’s highlights…

Monday

Today is International Museum Day, so why not head down to The Atkinson Museum in Southport (PR8 1DB) for Between Land and Sea – 10,000 Years of Sefton’s Coast. This new permanent exhibition is a museum full of the stories of the people who have lived and worked along our coast.

Beginning with the history of the Sefton coast from prehistoric times to the present day, the museum showcases the development of Sefton’s tourist towns of Southport and Birkdale, the outstanding natural habitats from Marshside to Formby Point and the major industrial port of Bootle.

Free Entry: Monday – Saturday. 10am – 4pm. (Closed Bank Holidays).

Or, alternatively, why not visit The British Lawnmower Museum in Southport (PR8 5AJ) for a very different history of Sefton, and mowers in general?

The museum has now become one of the world’s leading authorities on vintage lawnmowers and is a specialist in antique garden machinery. See ‘Lawnmowers of the Rich and Famous’, including King Charles (when he was Prince of Wales) and Princess Diana, Brian May, Nicholas Parsons, Eric Morecambe, Hilda Ogden, and many more.

Open: 9am – 5:30pm (Monday to Saturday)

Ticket prices:

  • Adults: £3 per ticket
  • Children: £1 per ticket
  • Guided tours (up to 4 people): £30 per ticket

Wednesday

Why not take the little ones to Formby Library’s Story and Rhyme Time (10:30–11am) and enjoy rhymes and stories with your children at your local library? It is also a friendly, inclusive space for parents and carers to meet up, mingle, and make new friends. If it’s a nice day, why not take a walk to the beach afterwards, or have an ice cream in the village?
