Over 400 musicians to take over Liverpool Cathedral for landmark community concert

Maghull Wind Orchestra

More than 400 musicians and singers from across the region are set to gather under the arches of Liverpool Cathedral this November for a massive community concert, organised in partnership with Maghull Wind Orchestra.

The free event, titled Celebration in the City, takes place on Tuesday 3rd November at 7.30pm. It will bring together military, brass, wind, and choral groups alongside guest organist Julie-Ann Carr and the cathedral’s famous organ.

At the heart of the event is Maghull Wind Orchestra’s founding commitment to making music open to all, operating on a strict “Any Age. Any Ability. No Audition. No Fee.” ethos. Highlighting this community focus, MWO Chair, Kate Warrier, said:

“Celebration in the City perfectly reflects everything Maghull Wind Orchestra stands for. We believe that music should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, experience or background. Our philosophy of ‘Any Age. Any Ability. No Audition. No Fee.’ has helped create a thriving musical community, and we are incredibly proud to partner with Liverpool Cathedral to bring together hundreds of performers for this special evening. This concert celebrates not only music, but the power of communities coming together to create something extraordinary.”

The lineup includes Maghull Wind Orchestra, the Liverpool Cathedral Choirs, The Band of The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, Red Rose Concert Band, St Helens Youth Brass Band, St Helens Concert Band, and Wirral Symphonic Wind Band.

The musical programme spans a wide range of styles, featuring world premieres, hits from the musicals Annie and Oliver!, and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. The event is also supported by Anne, Lady Dodd, with voluntary donations on the night going towards Liverpool Cathedral and Maghull Wind Orchestra.
