‘Travelling Blind’ 300 mile walk for Guide Dogs

On 7th September, Andrew Elliker-Reeve and his dedicated support team will embark on a remarkable 300-mile walk along the Trans Pennine Trail, raising money and awareness for Guide Dogs UK.

Andrew Elliker-Reeve, known as the ‘Travelling Blind’, will be taking on this challenge to raise awareness about accessibility and the incredible work of Guide Dogs UK. Andrew’s journey is not just a personal challenge; it is a mission to highlight the importance of accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

The first day of Andrew’s inspiring journey, will start from Southport, Seamark Feature (PR8 1SD) at 9am – arriving in Aintree (L30 8RP) at 4pm. The whole walk will take 22 days to complete and a full itinerary is available on his Facebook page. He would love people to turn up and cheer him on along the way, there will also be collection buckets for the charity.

Andrew’s story is one of resilience and determination. In February 2020, he underwent elective surgery to improve blood flow to his legs. Unfortunately, complications arose, and he came out of a coma ten days later with no colon, no functioning spleen, and no sight. Despite these significant challenges, Andrew has shown remarkable strength and has dedicated himself to raising awareness and support for accessibility.

The Trans Pennine Trail partnership is committed to improving accessibility and inclusivity on the Trail, making it a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of their mobility. They would be incredibly grateful to hotels and local B&Bs who would be willing to donate a room for Andrew along the route. Your generosity will ensure that every penny raised goes directly to Guide Dogs UK. If you are able to help, please get in touch with Andrew directly on 07719 490803.

Andrew Elliker-Reeve shares his excitement about the challenge, saying, “This journey is not just about me; it’s about raising awareness and making a difference. I hope that through this challenge, we can inspire others to see the world differently and support the cause of accessibility for all.”
