Monday 10 August – Between Land and Sea Exhibition at The Atkinson, Southport

  • Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm (Monday to Saturday)

Head down to The Atkinson in Southport for Between Land and Sea – 10,000 Years of Sefton’s Coast. This permanent museum exhibition tells the stories of the people who have lived and worked along our local coastline. Starting from prehistoric times up to the present day, the displays cover the development of tourist towns like Southport and Birkdale, the natural habitats from Marshside to Formby Point, and the major industrial port of Bootle. It is a great free option if you are looking for things to do in Southport during the school holidays. Please note the museum is closed on Bank Holidays.


Tuesday 11 August – Ready Steady Go! at Bootle Library

Join artist Emma for a playful and creative workshop aimed at young children. The “Ready Steady Go!” session is designed to help kids develop the skills and confidence they need to be school-ready for September. If you want engaging and educational things to do with the children this week, this is a brilliant local option right in the centre of Bootle.


Wednesday 12 August – Solar Eclipse Event at Coronation Park, Crosby

  • Time: 5:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Location: Coronation Park, Crosby, L23 5RQ
  • Cost: £5 per activity kit or £10 per family

Mark the UK’s partial solar eclipse this Wednesday evening with a special event at Coronation Park in Crosby. Families can build a safe, indirect pinhole eclipse viewer to watch the event. Other activities include designing and flying rockets, alongside exploring a custom planet trail. All money raised from the evening goes directly towards funding the park’s new children’s playground.


Thursday 13 August – Rififi at Southport Bijou Cinema

  • Time: 5:00pm
  • Location: Southport Bijou Cinema, 8 Post Office Avenue, Southport, PR9 0US
  • Cost: Standard admission prices + small booking fee (£6.00 Adults / £3.00 Children / £5.00 Members / )

Catch a masterpiece of French cinema this Thursday afternoon as the volunteer-led Southport Bijou Cinema screens the 1955 classic Rififi (12A, Subtitled). It is a great opportunity to watch a highly regarded crime thriller in a comfortable, community-run independent venue. There are no adverts or trailers, so the film will begin promptly at the advertised time.


Friday 14 August – Film & Fizz: Ghost at The Plaza, Waterloo

  • Time: 7:30pm
  • Location: The Plaza Cinema, 13 Crosby Road North, Waterloo, L22 0LD
  • Cost: £10.70 General Admission (Includes cinema entry plus a glass of fizz / soft drink)
  • Booking: Tickets available via the Plaza box office or website

Start your weekend with a classic as The Plaza presents the 1990 hit Ghost as part of their popular Film & Fizz series. Every ticket includes entry to the film and a glass of fizz to enjoy while you watch (soft drinks are available for under-18s or on request). It is a fantastic way to support a historic community cinema in Sefton while enjoying a great night out locally.
