Formby Village is preparing for a colourful reimagining as the community’s annual Yarn Bombing Day returns on Saturday 6 June 2026. Local crafters will take to the high street at dawn, covering public spaces in hand‑knitted and crocheted displays just in time for the weekend.
The event is organised by the Formby Yarn Bombers, a voluntary group operating under the Imagine Formby community initiative. Led by local resident Leanne Jones, the team includes 14 core members who spend months preparing themed woollen art in secret. Their goal is to bring a sense of fun to the village and encourage people to visit local independent businesses.

Visitors walking through the village can expect to see everyday objects like post boxes, lamp posts, and bollards wrapped in intricate designs. Past displays have featured everything from a life-sized deep-sea diver outside Formby Pool to tributes to the famous local red squirrels and world-famous artists.
The group will also be selling incredibly cute handmade items and there will be a ‘wool donations’ basket for any unused wool to help the group continue this fantastic tradition.
